2017 WILLIAM KNUTTEL PETERSON VINEYARD MALBEC

$29.99

An exceptionally well made Malbec from Northern California can be an absolute joy to behold, and offer unrivaled value.  The problem is there aren’t very many of them, because it’s almost exclusively used in Bordeaux style blends and rarely bottled as a stand-alone varietal. There’s also far less Malbec planted with only around 4% as many acres as Cabernet.  The William Knuttel Malbec 2017 captivated our tasting panel with its saturating blue fruits, spices and floral accents, and at under forty bucks it delivers stupendous quality.

Sourced from a high-elevation, single vineyard in Dry Creek Valley California, this 2017 Malbec is on point, and joins our Best Red Wine Under 30 must-have

2017 WILLIAM KNUTTEL PETERSON VINEYARD MALBEC

William Knuttel sourced his Malbec from Fred Peterson’s Vineyard on Bradford Mountain.  The Vineyard sits at 1,000 feet in elevation and overlooks Dry Creek Valley. The well-drained, red-clay soils produce intensely flavored Malbec with great natural acidity. The 2017 was co-fermented with Petit Verdot, which contributed to the velvety mouthfeel and pronounced blue fruit.  After 14 months developing in Francois Freres barrels, the 2017 is absolutely on point.

Winery Tasting Notes, “The 2017 Peterson Vineyard Dry Creek Valley Malbec is densely scented with aromas of blueberry, boysenberry and earth, gently massaged with oak spice. Flavors of black cherry and raspberry chime in on the mid-palate, and resolved tannins amply support the lengthy finish.“
