Chateau Montelena is most well known for defying the odds in the 1976 Judgement of Paris, a pivotal blind tasting where their 1973 Chardonnay won first place among several renowned French white wines. The winery was founded in 1882 and acquired by James Barrett in 1972, who, along with his son Bo Barrett, led the winery to success and international acclaim.

Nestled along the Northern reaches of Calistoga, the Estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon vines bask in the sun’s radiant warmth, fostering the emergence of robust flavors and rich hues. Rather than striving for uniformity in each vintage, the winery endeavors to capture the unique characteristics that define each year’s production.

Aged 22 months in French oak, the virtually perfect 2019 Montelena Estate Cabernet boasts an immaculate structure that will stand the test of time and reflect this exceptional vintage from Napa and the winery’s historical legacy.

Chateau Montelena is one of the Most Famous Wineries in the World. In 1976 at the “Judgement of Paris” wine competition, their California wine defeated French wine in a blind taste test.

A charismatic comedy capturing these moments called Bottle Shock the Movie produced in 2008, further catapulted this Napa Valley Cult Wine to one of the most highly sought-after Cabernet Sauvignons on the planet. This is their Flagship Wine, and many Collectors have been savoring it well before the film came out. Highly Recommended for Movie Enthusiasts, and this 2019 vintage is a MUST-HAVE for Collectors!

Decanter Tasting Notes, “The flagship wine of Chateau Montelena sourced from the winery’s estate vineyard adjacent to the chateau near the base of Mount St Helena. Compact and restrained at first; give it some air and good things will come. Bright red-toned fruits and dried wild herb notes are tethered to rich cedar spices. Well-endowed with impressive depth and concentration, particularly evident in the mid-palate which is weighted by crushed stones and earthen minerality. Elongated tannins are crisp while acids are firm and tangy. Those capable of looking past its upfront approachability will be rewarded with patience as this wine will evolve and shine over the next four decades.” DECANTER MAGAZINE 99 POINTS

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate Tasting Notes, “I tasted the soon-to-be-released 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate from two bottles, one freshly opened and one that had been opened the day before. Both were clearly outstanding, with the freshly opened bottle being just a bit tighter and less luxuriously textured but obviously packed with potential. Mixed currants and cherries appear on the nose, joined by hints of dark chocolate, while the palate is medium to full-bodied, rich, expansive and velvety, with a lingering, mouthwatering finish.” ROBERT PARKER 96+ POINTS

Tasting Notes from Antonio Galloni Vinous, “The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is heady and quite extroverted, especially compared with the 2018 tasted alongside it. Readers will have a very hard time keeping their hands off this jewel of a wine. Silky, plush tannins wrap around a core of dark fruit, chocolate, lavender, spice and leather. The combination of a generous, opulent style with the classically-leaning Montelena style makes for a hugely appealing Cabernet to drink over the next two decades or more.” VINOUS 96 POINTS
