Nestled amidst the Napa Valley foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, AXR Winery’s estate boasts a variety of sedimentary soils shaped by millenniums of rainwater runoff, resulting in a diverse terroir. The property was founded over 130 years ago and has served as a brewery, restaurant, inn, winery, and saloon, and today has returned to its winemaking roots, paying homage to the innovative pioneers of its past.

Swiss-born winemaker Jean Hoefliger began his winemaking journey in Bordeaux, honing his skills at Château Lynch-Bages and Château Carbonnieux. He then expanded his expertise in South Africa, contributing to the winemaking team at Meerlust.

AXR’s 2019 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon comes from specially selected vineyards, including the Furtado, Denali, V. Madrone, Sleeping Lady, and Ballard vineyards, then elevated in a combination of barrel and stainless steel fermentation, creating a seamless integration that will stand the test of time.

A “Tremendous Wine” from 2019 Vintage and Double 97 POINTS AXR Cab!!

Tasting Notes from Decanter, “Winemaker Jean Hoefliger sources grapes from the Denali Vineyard and V Madrone in St Helena, Furtado and Sleeping Lady in Yountville, and Ballard Vineyards on Spring Mountain. Restrained on the nose at first, with subtle dark fruits coated in fine graham cracker crumb, sweet cedar and chocolate. But the wine builds on the palate revealing dried strawberry, ripe boysenberry and traces of blue fruit, herbs and mineral flourishes, enrobed in palate-etching tannins. A tremendous wine.” DECANTER MAGAZINE 97 POINTS

Tasting Notes from James Suckling, “This is a fresh red with notes of ripe plums and blueberries, baking spices and chocolate. Super polished and silky tannin structure with incredible balance and succulent fruit. Long finish with hints of crushed stones and spices. Very fine tannins at the end. Delicious now, but better from 2024.” JAMES SUCKLING 97 POINTS

Tasting Notes from Jeb Dunnuck, “Readers looking for a great value in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon will love the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, a rich, medium to full-bodied, beautifully fruited and textured 2019 offering sweet tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. It way over-delivers. 1115 cases.” JEB DUNNUCK 94 POINTS
