The World-Famous Napa Valley Producer Fred Schrader created Double Diamond to share Schrader Cellars’ tradition of excellence with a broader audience of wine lovers. His Schrader Cabernets are among the best in the world, proven by around thirty 100 point scores. Fred sources from some of the top blocks in To-Kalon and other renowned Vineyards, so it’s no surprise that the cult wines can cost around $500/btl. At $75, Double Diamond offers a ridiculous quality level, and the 2018 release is one of their best yet.

This stunning Oakville Cabernet was crafted by Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, who’s absolutely at the top of his game and is one of Cabernet Sauvignon’s dominating forces. He made history as the first American winemaker to receive a perfect 100 point score from the Wine Spectator, and he’s also the winemaker at Revana, Maybach, Gemstone, and Outpost, to name a few. Thomas has so many perfect 100 Point Wines, that we all lost track…

Double Diamond sourced their 2018 exclusively from prime vineyards in Oakville, and each site contributed its own set of unique characteristics. At under $100/btl, this pedigreed Cab deserves a spot in your cellar and your table. Get this one before the scores are released…

Tasting Notes from Schrader Winery, “Prepare to be dazzled by this wine, with its harmonious integration of decadent fruit, refined structure, and exotic spice components. In the glass, the wine possesses a dark plum-purple hue. Intriguing aromatic notes of Mexican chocolate, nutmeg, brambly fruit, spearmint, and violets swell from the glass in concert. Upon entry, the mouthfeel is voluptuous, sleek, and inviting, while also exhibiting a silky tannin profile to provide a complex framework. Rich palate notes suggest black currant, blackberry reduction, leather, crushed rock, and allspice. This wine is very enjoyable and showing well today, but with 3-5 years in the cellar it will develop into an even more beautiful expression of the vintage.”

Vintage Notes from Winemaker, “The Excellent 2018 Vintage: After a wet and cool winter, bud break and flowering both got off to a later than normal start. Summer brought with it nice, even temperatures with very few heat spikes allowing for wonderful phenolic development in the grapes and even ripening across all our vineyard sites. Due to the lower-than-normal summer temperatures, the grapes had long, steady ripening that allowed for wonderful sugar development yet maintained their structure. A winemaker’s dream, the 2018 vintage has produced wines that will age gracefully in your cellar yet provide exceptional pleasure upon release.” ~ Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown

Notes from Edward, “Hopefully you are sipping on something delicious this beautiful Friday Evening, or perhaps preparing for a wonderful weekend. For those sipping on 18s right now… wow, right?! It’s awesome when a vintage truly shines… and it’s only going to get better. If this wine piques your interest, I strongly recommend getting as much as you can, before the scores come out. I wouldn’t be surprised if this Oakville Cab from Schrader is rated 98 points plus, possibly perfect. Is this the Best Wine in the World under $80? Very interesting question – bottom line: it’s off-the-charts !”
