2017 MORGAN TWELVE CLONES PINOT NOIR, SANTA LUCIA HIGHLANDS
$35.00 $29.99
Morgan Twelve Clones has always made my short-list of California’s best value Pinots, and when you consider the origins of the grapes, it’s no surprise. It’s also a wine with a tremendously broad appeal, simply because it’s an excellent representation of the varietal, it’s pristinely balanced and has superb qualities that are compelling for just about any wine lover. With quadruple 91-93 point scores and a price that’s easy to swallow too (pun intended,) I wouldn’t hesitate to secure your case.
In 2017, nearly 50% of the fruit came from the winery’s flagship Double L Vineyard, where their single-vineyard Pinot rings in at $65. the Twelve Clones is a shining value. The very name “Twelve Clones” denotes the diverse Pinot Noir plantings in Double L. The balance of grapes come from neighboring sites, which contribute to the wine’s vast complexity.
2017 was a beautiful vintage for Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir, and it earned an overall vintage rating of 91-94 Points by the Wine Spectator. The instant this 2017 graces your palate, the multi-dimensional flavors, balanced acidity, and supple fruit will induce a smile on even the most discerning wine lover.
