Grand Cru translates from French to Great Growth, and it designates a vineyard that produces world-class wines. In the New World, we don’t use Grand Cru as a classification, but if we did, you can bet that the iconic Durell Vineyard would be one of them.  Durell has an epic history of producing some of California’s most distinguished Chardonnays and it’s a site celebrated by powerhouses Kistler, Gary Farrell, TOR, and the list goes on… The vineyard is well-known for producing rich, powerful Chardonnays with tremendous sense of place.

Durell Vineyard is located in the Southwestern hills of Sonoma Valley, and there it benefits from the cooling effect of the San Pablo Bay and the afternoon winds generated from the Pacific.  It enjoys the warmth of Sonoma Valley to it’s North and the rocky clay loam soils help keep yields low.  This gorgeous Chardonnay was created by Weston Eidson who gained valuable winemaking knowledge from mentors Jason Moore and Russell Bevan.

Winery Notes: “This Chardonnay hails exclusively from the Durell Vineyard in Sonoma Coast. The Chardonnay is bright, powerful, and driven by a flinty minerality balanced with tropical fruit notes of white peach, honeyed apricots, and lemon curd with hints of mint and citrus. This wine was fermented in French barrels and spent one year in barrel leading to wonderfully balanced oak integration while sur lee aging developed rich complexity.”
