2017 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac, AOC Pauillac

A legendary First Growth of Pauillac, Chateau Mouton Rothschild is part of the exclusive circle of Bordeaux’s greatest estates, whose fine wines are sought after by all around the world by collectors. More spectacular than ever, Chateau Mouton Rothschild continues to write its legend, masterfully orchestrated by Philippe Sereys de Rothschild.

Château Mouton Rothschild 2017 has an elegant deep, dark purple colour, almost black with some garnet/ruby tints. On the nose, it reveals a powerful and complex bouquet, mixing candied black fruits, blackcurrant and blackberry, with floral notes of violets, multiple spices, pepper and tertiary notes of tobacco and graphite. Once on the palate, Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2017 is medium-bodied with a rich attack that lines the tongue and cheeks with extraordinary fruity freshness. The midpalate reveals silky, velvety tannins coating the layers with fresh black fruit, spices and wood before concluding with a long, concentrated finish. For its 2017 vintage it is built on a dominant of Cabernet Sauvignon (90%) added to Merlot (9%) and Petit Verdot (1%).

WA99 | From Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, “The 2017 Mouton Rothschild has one of the highest percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon ever at 90%, with 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Very deep purple-black in color, the nose is already singing of crushed black currants, warm blackberries and chocolate-covered cherries with hints of violets, star anise, cinnamon stick and cloves plus wafts of pencil lead and unsmoked cigars. Medium-bodied, wonderfully delicate yet intense in the mouth (gaining some richness in the mid-palate on my second taste two and a half weeks later), it has super fine-grained, smooth tannins and incredible freshness, finishing very long with tons of tightly wound layers. Wow. This vintage is going to be very long-lived in the cellar!” WINE ADVOCATE 99 POINTS

JS98 | From James Suckling, “Extremely perfumed Mouton with currants and crushed berries. Hints of roses and other flowers. Tight and extremely refined with ultra-fine tannins and cool yet rich currant character. The center palate offers sweet cherries and hints of oak. Lightly sweet and sour. Fresh, balsamic note. It firms up at the end. Solid. A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot.” JAMES SUCKLING 98 POINTS
