When a winemaker’s very name bears a quintessence of quality so distinguished that it’s known across the globe, the wines produced under their own brand are always a joy to behold. Paul Hobbs epitomizes this statement and although we often write about wines that he consults on, it’s rare that we have an opportunity to share one of his own.

The 2016 vintage marks the inaugural release of Paul’s Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, which was thoughtfully created from top parcels along in the true coastal Sonoma Coast AVA, and includes fruit from his own iconic Goldrock Estate Vineyard in Annapolis, which he purchased a few years ago.

Like many of Paul Hobbs wines, the 2016 Sonoma Coast Pinot was made in an incredibly captivating style that’s deeply-layered, plush and extracted, and offers a kaleidoscope of classic Sonoma Coast flavors and nuance, with a keen element of elegance threaded throughout.

Jeb Dunnuck Notes, “The 2016 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast offers more minerality and salinity as well as darker fruits, graphite, smoke, and scorched earth characteristics. It’s tighter, more backward, and Burgundian, with terrific concentration and purity as well as balance…” Jebb Dunnuck 95+ POINTS

Vinous Notes, “The 2016 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is the real gem in this range, given its superb quality and modest price… Unctuous and creamy on the palate, with terrific depth, the 2016 shows why the wines of the true Sonoma Coast are so appealing. Sweet red cherry pie, blood orange, pomegranate and wild flowers all race out of the glass. More importantly, the 2016 shows why the wines of the Sonoma Coast are so compelling…” Vinous 94 POINTS
