2016 DUCKHORN “THREE PALMS VINEYARD” MERLOT

$99.99

Duckhorn’s new 2016 Three Palms Merlot literally gave me chills of excitement when I tasted it, which continued all the way through the penetrating, lengthy finish.  The 2016 has even greater intensity and opulence than the 2014 which ranked as the #1 Wine in the World on the 2017 Wine Spectator Top 100 list, making it one of only two California Merlots ever to earn the coveted spot.  The powerfully seductive fruit and finely grained tannins are woven throughout and highlight that it’s irresistible now, but it has all  the characteristics it needs to cellar for two decades.  Over the last 40 years, Duckhorn has become an inspirational icon for mastering Bordeaux varietals, and particularly Merlot in Napa Valley.  I can think of no other wine brand that defines iconic for a single varietal than Duckhorn does for Merlot…

Perfectly embodying new world intensity along with traditional backbone, the 2016 Three Palms absolutely conquers your senses with intense crushed black-raspberry, graphite, cocoa dusted blackberries and potpourri.  The 2016 is remarkably poised with a dominant presence on the palate that expands throughout the finish. I strongly recommend securing a case of this celebrated California Merlot.

Now Nearly Sold-Out, and virtually unobtainable worldwide, this will be gone very soon… don’t miss it.

From Wine Enthusiast, “Blended with 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Malbec, this vintage is superb and exuberant in flavors of chocolate-covered plum, baking spice and dried herb. Structured, robust and mineral-driven, it is powerful yet balanced. Enjoy 2026–2036.” Wine Enthusiast Cellar Selection 94 POINTS

Winery Tasting Notes: Once again, the revered Three Palms Vineyard has yielded a benchmark expression of New World Merlot, with a complex, age-worthy structure, silken tannins, and radiant fruit. On the nose, aromas of huckleberry, plum, Bing cherry, cinnamon and rose petals are underscored by hints of cocoa and sweet French oak. As it evolves in the glass, flavors of cardamom, cranberry, blueberry and figs are revealed, as well as elements of earthy minerality that add drama to the long, complex finish.

Recommended Pairings: Mushrooms, Grilled Lamb or Beef, Aged Cheddar, Rosemary
