2016 BRULIAM GAP’S CROWN VINEYARD PINOT NOIR

$65.00

One of the most revered vineyards inside the Petaluma Gap AVA is Gap’s Crown, and it’s beloved for producing profoundly expressive and intensely flavored fruit.  Producers like Kosta Browne, Patz & Hall, and Sojourn have all helped to put it on the map. Bruliam’s 2016 version swept me off my feet in a recent tasting with its deeply enchanting flavors, compact core, and precision balance. We bought every bottle left of the tiny 150 case production, but it’s not going to be enough.

Bruliam’s allocation of Gap’s Crown fruit netted a whopping 2.29 tons of perfectly ripped berries and was an even split between Dijon Clones 115 and 777. 115 offers the muscle, while 777 produces a potent bouquet, and together, well, you just have to try it.

Medical doctor-turned-winemaker Kerith Overstreet makes Bruliam, and it’s her attention to every minute detail in the winemaking process that translates to wines with captivating balance and a wonderful sense of place.

2016 BRULIAM GAP’S CROWN VINEYARD PINOT NOIR

JEBB DUNNUCK | 93 POINTS
Tasting Notes from Jebb Dunnuck “Another terrific wine is the 2016 Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown Vineyard, and it comes from a cooler site in the Sonoma Coast AVA, was completely destemmed, and spent ten months in 16% new French oak. Red and black currants, smoked earth, hints of leafy herbs, and forest floor all flow to a medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced Pinot Noir that has fine tannins and a great finish. It’s a beautiful effort that has a kiss of Burgundy in its sweet California fruit.” JEBB DUNNUCK 93 POINTS

WINE ENTHUSIAST | 92 POINTS
Tasting Notes from Wine Enthusiast, “From the great site now within the Petaluma Gap is this stewy, meaty and concentrated wine from a great vintage, is ebullient in strawberry, plum and mint. The backbone of the red’s medium-bodied richness is concentrated in savory spice and herb, with a lacing of acid-driven minerality.” WINE ENTHUSIAST 92 POINTS

Tasting Notes from Edward, “Not only is this a Great Pinot, it’s good for you! Loaded with antioxidants, Pinot Noir is one of the healthiest wines for you … made by a doctor, that adds an extra dose of healthy awesomeness, but what I really like here… the Vineyard. I think anyone and everyone that has enjoyed Pinot Noir from Gap’s Crown will agree it’s a Magical Vineyard of world-class terroir, and sipping on juice from this esteemed Sonoma Coast Crown has to be the closest comparison to the Best Burgundy in the world. I would love to Blind Taste DRC with any Gap’s Crown Pinot, and see who wins – I bet on USA all the way.” God Bless America, and have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!
