2015 TOBIAS FORMATION PROPRIETARY RED

$33.00

Can top-level winemaking be passed down through generations? The 2015 Tobias Formation Blend certainly shows some synchronicity there… It’s a project by Toby Forman, who grew up learning farming and winemaking from his father, legendary winemaker Ric Forman.  Ric was the long-time winemaker at Sterling, Newton, Duckhorn Vineyards and was credited for introducing vintage-dated Merlot in the US, along with Dick Graff.  The composition of the blend of Formation  changes in each vintage, but it’s structured around the best lots that mother-nature provides.  Lucky for us in 2015, the blend includes high-quality Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, and at the retail price of around $50 bucks this wine offers incredible value. Of course at our $33 price, you absolutely have to try it.

With Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot sourced from Sonoma County’s revered Rockpile AVA, which is well known for producing powerfully concentrated fruit, Formation has a dense core, a sturdy build, and is laced with complexity.   The wine is deeply concentrated, but without being heavy or overbearing, but is also remarkably balanced.  If you’re on the lookout for a full-bodied red blend that’s overflowing with character, this one’s for you.
