2015 MATIAS “SANTA LUCIA HIGHLANDS” PINOT NOIR

$25.00

While Pinot Noir can range anywhere from $5/btl to around $20,000/btl for Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, there’s a sweet spot in the mid $20’s, where we’ve been able to uncover some brilliant examples of the varietal. One of my favorites is from Matias and their Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir blends four of the regions most acclaimed vineyards, Garys’, Rosella’s, Soberanes, and Sierra Mar. These four vineyards are like an MVP list of Santa Lucia Highlands best vineyards…

91 POINTS, “rich and fruity on the palate” … says WE. This Pinot drinks WAY beyond $25/btl (save 28%)

Masterfully blended from the Top Four Vineyards in SLH — Santa Lucia Highlands. These four vineyards are highly regarded for producing fruit with notable character, intriguing flavors and compelling qualities. Finding a Pinot from these sites at under $30 is extremely rare. Even at the winery retail price of $35, this is an outstanding Pinot Noir, but at $25 + 91WE, it’s a must-have and Cases are Highly Recommended.

Composed by accomplished winemaker Dan Fitzgerald, who got his start by working at Williams-Selyem, the Matias brand has become one of our most requested in the shop. The 2015 is packed with candied cherry, black raspberry, Santa Rosa plum, red flowers and holiday spices. Don’t be fooled by the low price, this is a superb Pinot Noir that competes with top Pinots at a much higher price.

91 POINTS | WINE ENTHUSIAST:
Wine Enthusiast Notes, “Ripe and fruity aromas of cherry pie with vanilla-laced crust make for a delicious and hedonistic if not entirely complex nose on this appellation blend. It’s also rich and fruity on the palate, with black-cherry and warm croissant flavors.” WINE ENTHUSIAST 91 POINTS
