2015 LOBO WULFF VINEYARDS NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON, OAK KNOLL

NEW SCORE from Decanter , “Established by husband and wife team Randy and Krys Wulff around 15 years ago, Lobo make their wines from small lot, sustainable fruit, sourced entirely from their estate vineyards in Oak Knoll District and Atlas Peak. Only 100 cases of the 2015 Wulff Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon were produced, crafted by skilled winemaker Victoria Coleman, a rising star in Napa who has also has experience at Château Mouton Rothschild. The wine is from Lobo’s Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley vineyards, with the grapes hand harvested from close row plantings.” Score Released December 2019 – Decanter 96 POINTS

Ed’s Notes, “We taste a lot of wines, and frankly it’s not easy to keep up with all of the scores, releases, and accolades from vintage transition during the Holidays; so this is exciting news! A great way for all of us to start the New Year in Wine — Validation perhaps for our own Tasting Panel, and continued trust building with our treasured VIP clientele… so grab a case if your read Decanter, or any Wine Publication, grab a 15-pack if you want to enjoy 3-bottles now, and lay down this howling example of Killer Napa Cab! Full Moon tonight…. aaaawwoooohooo! Ironically, the Wolf Moon… how many more signs do we need: Pedigree, Ratings, #1, Top-Scoring, Great Deal — Buy a Case, trust me.” CaliHiWines 98 POINTS

… Ed Continues… sorry almost forget to mention … Wine Advocate Tasting Notes below, absolutely Nail the Taste! Spot-on. I always love seeing the + sign after a Robert Parker Score… knowing that means this wine will be re-rated from Parker, and 9 times out of 10, a plus sign will always garner a much bigger score…

From Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate, “The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Lobo Oak Knoll shows a medium to deep garnet-purple color and an intense black currant, black cherry and blackberry-scented nose with hints of smoked meat, fragrant earth, lilacs and truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is concentrated, rich and expressive at this youthful stage, with well-played chewy tannins and a long, savory finish.“ 92+ Points

Your palate will immediately recognize a wine that is absolutely remarkable, and that’s precisely what we look for in our tastings each week.  In fact, we taste nearly a wine a minute during our tastings, and superior quality stands out when we come across something truly profound.  We knew we had come across something extra special the instant that we tasted Lobo’s new 2015 Napa Cabernet, and when we learned it had a 96 Point score coming out very soon from a major publication, we also knew we’d better act fast.  This wine is textbook Oak Knoll district Cabernet with a round mouthfeel, a graceful palate presence and long, lingering flavors.

Napa Valley’s prized Oak Knoll district shadows the Mayacamas Mountain range, and is perfect for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. With a micro-climate cooler than the neighboring Yountville AVA, the vineyard is perfectly suited to ripen Cabernet grapes. Lobo’s red wines are made by Victoria Coleman who previously worked alongside Erick Tourbier at Chateau Mouton Rothschild, and at Jade Valley Winery in China. She’s an experienced, talented winemaker and it shows in this stunning Cabernet. Just don’t be the lone wolf that misses out on this one…
