For three decades, Elyse Winery in Yountville has built a reputation for producing exceptional value wines with enormous character.  Their focus has been on crafting single-vineyard wines with sense of place, sourced from a bevy of Napa Valley’s most celebrated vineyards. Their wines have recently been elevated to an even higher level after hiring Russell Bevan as winemaker.  Russell has a Midas touch for winemaking, and he’s been raking in perfect 100 point scores at a record pace. He became winemaker for Elyse in 2017 and lucky for us, he finalized the blend on their 2015 Holbrook Mitchell Vineyard Cabernet, and it shows…  The wine is deep, rich and compelling and offers a crescendo of intense dark fruits, espresso roast, cassis and dark chocolate.

The Holbrook Mitchell Vineyard is a hillside site, located just Southwest of the town of Yountville, less than a mile from the winery.  The soils are comprised of sedimentary, gravelly alluvial earth with rock, and provides excellent drainage which helps naturally reduce the yields of these complex berries.  Combine that with the position of the vineyard just South of Yountville, where cool breezes from the San Pablo Bay allow for a longer growing season, and this vineyard has everything it takes to produce incredible fruit.

Tasting Notes: “The Elyse Holbrook Mitchell Cabernet 2015 instantly lured me in with a deep, rich nose that has pungent black fruit intensity followed by sweet black cherry, purple flowers, winter baking spices and wet clay.  The palate is dynamic and complex with penetrating, focused flavors of blackberries and red currants, followed by espresso roast and sweet vanilla oak. This one certainly approaches the absolute pinnacle of what is possible for an opulent, luxuriously sultry, enticing wine at a very modest price point.”
