2014 STEPS WINEMAKERS RESERVE PROPRIETARY RED, NAPA VALLEY

The splendiferous cousin to the Steps Barrel Select, released in February, the 6 barrel production Winemaker’s Reserve is heavily based in Atlas Peak, and made transparent by its striking crushed rock minerality and dusty tannins that make the area so desired.  Penetrating your taste buds with dreamlike intensity and all of the scrumptiously thrilling qualities and unforgettable flavors and aromas that make the Steps Reserve wines so wondrous, and with a steep decline in production over the previous two vintages, the 2014 Winemaker’s Reserve Blend won’t be available for long.

The final blend has a solid core of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon from Atlas Peak, magnified by 14% Cabernet Franc from Kenefick Palisades Vineyard, 9% Malbec from Oakville and completed with 5% Petit Verdot from Coombsville.  Layered with supple tannins and gorgeous complexity, the 2014 was cave aged for 24 months in high quality oak barrels, and just as we’ve come to expect from Steps… the 2014 Winemaker’s Reserve will compete favorably with wines at more than double its price.
