2014 LATERAL NAPA VALLEY PROPRIETARY RED

$39.99

“Big Boy Food Pairing” says the Winemaker … Oh Yea, that gets my attention, and I’m thinking the best wine with steak.  A stunning example of just how inspiring Right Bank influenced blends from Napa Valley can be, Marty loves to showcase the lush textures and richness of Merlot perfectly opposing the aromatic qualities and structure of Cabernet Franc.  The 2014 Lateral Red Blend blend utilizes 65% Merlot balanced with 35% Cabernet Franc, and was kept for around 18 months in oak barrels.  The 2014 is stellar right now and promises another decade of sheer enjoyment.  I highly recommend making room for a case.

AMONG THE TOP 5% of ALL WINES in the WORLD and MADE WITH ORGANIC GRAPES! The 2014 Lateral Red Blend was inspired by St. Emilion wines in the heart of Bordeaux, and influenced by the interplay and tension created between Merlot and Cabernet Franc.  Proprietor and Winemaker Marty Mathis, whom you might recognize from his high-scoring Kathryn Kennedy wines, decided to showcase how each of these two iconic grapes can harmonize to complement yet contrast each other, in a way that’s different from other Bordeaux style blends.  He’s done so with carefully sought-out vineyards, primarily located in Coombsville AVA, Los Carneros AVA, and Yountville AVA, and his 2014 is showing stunning delineation, depth and focus. Underlining notes of spice box, crushed black cherries, chocolate mint and rose buds leave a long lasting impression.  At  $39.99, you might grab a case quickly of 2014 LATERAL NAPA VALLEY PROPRIETARY RED before it’s gone…

2014 LATERAL “NAPA VALLEY” PROPRIETARY RED BLEND

Tasting Notes from KATHRYN KENNEDY LATERAL Winery: “Darkest Lateral in recent years.  Alluring and expressive nose of smashed black cherries, pencil lead, warm earth aromas that feature hints of spices such as cedar wood box, dried rose petals and mint candy.Rich black cherry in the mouth.  This wine has that “wow factor” with deep, rich and complex fruit flavors and a smooth satisfying texture with a lower tannin leading to a lithe and silky finish.  Begs for “big boy” food pairing without a need for cellaring.”
