2014 HOLLYWOOD & VINE “2480” CABERNET SAUVIGNON

$89.99

What is it like tasting Hollywood & Vine’s 2014 Cabernet? BIG. Picture a liquid version of the larger-than-life Hollywood Sign that stands 45 feet tall and 350 feet across, and it will give you an idea of the monumental size of this super-rich, lavish Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.  And the wine is a Super-Star… It was directed by the Legendary Celia Welch, whom you might recognize from having made Scarecrow, Buccella, D.R. Stephens, Keever, Dalla Valle, & Staglin…  And just in case you may not be familiar with Celia’s artistry, a testament to Celia’s powerful winemaking ability is the fact that she made 5 cases of 2012 Scarecrow Napa Cab that sold for a record $260,000 at the Premiere Napa Valley Wine Auction.

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was masterfully blended from pristine vineyard sites in Oakville, Rutherford, and St. Helena…  Each site adds distinctive characteristics that come together in perfect synchronicity in this world-class wine.  Spending around 21 months in French oak barrels, Hollywood & Vine’s 2014 “2480” is deeply extracted and even richer and more lavish than previous years.  At under $100/btl, this is simply one of the best 2014 Napa Valley Cabernets period.

2014 HOLLYWOOD & VINE “2480” CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Tasting Notes From Winemaker, Celia’s Notes: “Great Cabernets show complexity in both aromas and flavors, and an unmistakable sense of terroir.  This 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon offers lovely notes of deep dark cassis, cherries baked into a toasted wheat crust, warm blackberries still on the vine.  At entry, the wine shows soft, broad, silky tannins and a brightness from the natural fruit acidity, all framed in a structure that shows a touch of French oak and a firm core that suggests considerable age-worthiness.”

The Hollywood & Vine Story: What do you call it when a Hollywood actor/director wants to make wine? Hollywood & Vine! That is the story of Doug Barr, who starred in series like Designing Women, The Fall Guy, Two on the Town, etc.  He purchased a home at “2480” street address in Napa, once the home of Maynard Amerine, one of the originators of Napa Valley Wines. As the story goes, Doug found a book Maynard published in the home and before long he wanted to get involved in wine – the rest Hollywood & Vine 2480 is history.

James Suckling Notes 2014 Vintage: Many will remember this vintage as the year of the earthquake, which wrecked havoc in most of Napa Valley on August 24. Besides structural and ancillary damage, some winemakers believe that the seismic trauma changed the water table, giving a thrust of water to deep rooted vines a few weeks before the harvest. This reduced the effects of the drought in 2014, so they say. I can’t say for sure whether that’s really the case, but I can say that the 2014s are sensational. Go get some. -James Suckling
