James Suckling Notes, “A soft and fruity red with chocolate and berry character. Medium to full body, velvety tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Drink now or hold.” JAMES SUCKLING 92 POINTS
92 POINTS | VINOUS:
Antonio Galloni Notes, “The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Barrouge is another huge, tannic wine from Barlow, but the balance here is better. Game, smoke, cured meat and dark spices flesh out as this powerful, structured Cabernet struts its stuff…” VINOUS 92 POINTS
2013 BARLOW BARROUGE NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON
There are many family-owned and operated vineyards in Napa Valley that are producing stunning wines with palpable value, and Barlow Vineyards in Calistoga is undoubtedly one of my favorites. A father and son team farm the vineyard, and the wines have a powerful sense of place and authentic Calistoga structure.
Located in a sweet spot in Southeastern Calistoga, Barlow’s Estate Vineyard is at the base of Dutch Henry Canyon and near Duckhorn’s Iconic 3 Palms Vineyard. Over thousands of years, the sediment has washed down from the hillsides of the Vaca Mountains, creating notoriously complex soils, ideally suited for Bordeaux varietals.
The 2013 Barrouge combines 82% Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Petite Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, and the wine arose from celebrated 2013 vintage, which Robert Parker said might be the best vintage over the last 37 years. With around four years in the bottle, the 2013 Barrouge is stunning right now.
